GOLDEN GATE FICUS BONSAI (TIGER BARK)

The Golden Gate Ficus Bonsai, with its stunning appearance and unique “tiger bark” trunk, is a must-have for any plant enthusiast. Native to China, this plant has been used in bonsai for centuries and is prized for its delicate leaves and gnarled appearance, which make it resemble a miniature version of a grand tree found in the wild. Carefully trained and pruned, this bonsai maintains its shape, and its beautiful leaves add a touch of sophistication to any indoor space.

Apart from its aesthetic appeal, the Golden Gate Ficus is also incredibly easy to care for, making it a perfect choice for both beginners and experienced bonsai enthusiasts. Like most ficus trees, it symbolizes unity, simplicity, fresh starts, and a connection to nature, making it an ideal gift for newlyweds, new homeowners, and families who are expecting a baby. It is also known to brighten up a room and bring happiness to those who own it, earning it the nickname “cheerful tree.”

When it comes to temperature, it is essential to keep the Golden Gate Ficus in a range between 65-75°F (18-25°C). Exposure to temperatures outside of this range can cause damage, with cold temperatures being particularly harmful. Although this plant is typically kept indoors, it may benefit from some time outside during the summer.

Finally, it is worth noting that the Ficus is toxic, and all parts of it should not be ingested. It can be deadly to small pets, and cats may be tempted to chew on it. Therefore, if you have small animals in your home, it is essential to keep your Ficus out of their reach.

In conclusion, while the Golden Gate Ficus is a beautiful and easy-to-care-for plant, it is essential to be mindful of its toxic nature and take necessary precautions to keep it away from small children and pets. By following these guidelines, you can enjoy the beauty of this bonsai without any worry.

Care

TEMPERATURE

The optimal temperature range for the Golden Gate Ficus is between 65-75°F (18-25°C). Exposure to temperatures outside of this range can cause damage, with cold temperatures being particularly harmful. Although this plant is typically kept indoors, it may benefit from some time outside during the summer.

WATERING

Proper watering is crucial for maintaining a healthy bonsai. Typically, indoor bonsai should be watered every two to three days. However, the exact watering schedule may vary based on the type of tree, so it’s important to refer to the information tag that comes with your bonsai for specific instructions.

When your indoor bonsai is outside, it will require more frequent watering, so be sure to water it daily. Use a watering can or hose attachment with a fine-spray nozzle to thoroughly soak the soil, allowing the water to run out of the drain holes. While misting the foliage can be beneficial, it should not be considered a substitute for proper watering.

FERTILIZING

Fertilizing the plant regularly with a balanced fertilizer can also promote growth, with an emphasis on nitrogen in the summer and less in the winter. Despite its need for proper care, the Golden Gate Ficus is a resilient plant that can survive even under neglectful conditions.

For optimal results, most water-soluble and time-released fertilizers work well when used as directed. For more mature bonsai specimens, it is recommended to use slow-releasing organic fertilizers for a more sustainable and natural approach to plant nutrition.

REPOTTING

To ensure the health and growth of your bonsai, it’s important to repot it every four to five years when its root system becomes constricted in the pot. Repotting indoor bonsai should only be done during the late spring or early summer.

It is important to use a quality bonsai soil, as regular potting soil may compact and block proper drainage. If you are new to bonsai care, it’s recommended to wait at least one growing season after receiving your tree before repotting it to give it time to become well-established.

  1. Nicholas Messina (Verified Buyer)

I got a Golden Gate Ficus, the description says it’s about 7 years old. Upon receiving my bonsai, I was pleasantly surprised to find it even more stunning than in the advertised picture. During transportation, only a couple of leaves were lost. The trunk boasts a graceful curve and has a dark brownish-gray color. Leaf drop or even the death of a bonsai is typically caused by either over-watering or under-watering during the hottest and driest summer days. To determine the appropriate amount of water your bonsai requires, I recommended that you purchase a bonsai book.
My bonsai has been pruned and shaped into an elegant S-shape. Bonsai pruning and shaping can be a complex task and is best left to a trained professional. Unlike the cheap plastic potted bonsai trees commonly found in home supply stores, this ficus tree is a true work of art.

My tree was delivered 2 days early and I was shocked how awesome it was. Thick trunk, lots of leaves, and very healthy. Was nervous about getting it mailed but it arrived perfect. My ficus even had moss growing up the trunk. Love it!!

My bonsai arrived today and it looks just like the picture, I was super happy with it. No bugs and it seems healthy. I’m a Bonsai newbie, so it’s perfect for me to start with. The packaging and delivery were also great!

  6. Sofia

Love this tree. I purchased a while ago and waited to review it to see how it would do overall. It is beautiful and full. Perfect addition to my living space.

  7. Jayden

This plant arrived fast and safe, with only a tiny broken branch from shipping. But no worries, I replanted it and it’s still growing strong a few weeks later. The main tree looks exactly like described and has been healthy and growing since I got it.

  8. Hudson

Lots of leaves, healthy, and a pretty twist in the trunk. A few leaves have fallen off but it has new growth starting so even though I’m busy and not giving it a lot of attention, it still looks good after a couple of months.

  9. Asher

The item arrived exactly as depicted in the image. I attached the tag that came with it to a decorative pot stick, making it a perfect gift. It’s in great condition and was well-packaged, ensuring that it arrived healthy and not dried out ((I’m in northern Indiana). I just need to get a humidity tray for it now to keep it in optimal condition.

This Golden Gate Ficus tree is spot on! The shipping was awesome and super secure. I was worried about the tree getting damaged, but they packed it perfectly with foam noodles so nothing moved around. I was shocked when I opened the box and the soil was still moist. These guys take their bonsai trees seriously and it shows!

  14. Jerry Willis (Verified Buyer)

I’ve raised this tree for almost 4 full months now. Within a week of giving the tree a good trim, a full set of new leaves can be seen growing. I can’t remember losing any leaves. The Golden Gate Ficus is highly recommended because it’s low-maintenance

  22. Jacob

The plant was packaged with care and arrived in perfect condition. It was snug in foam and had plenty of foam noodles to keep it from bouncing around during shipment. It was also wrapped in plastic which made it look even better! I can’t wait to keep it looking just as good and I just ordered a tray and stones to put under it.

  23. Nora

My mom got the bonsai I shipped to her and she said it arrived in great condition.
The pot was secured to a cardboard box with tape and the soil was covered to prevent any spills. The whole package was then packed tight with styrofoam in a larger box. The plant made it with no broken branches or leaves and no mess.
The bonsai stands about 10 inches tall and the pot is about 5 to 6 inches long, with a unique and gnarled shape.
It came with detailed care instructions in a booklet and even had a tag with its name and brief care instructions.
    It was pretty. 5-star rating!

  24. Chloe

It arrived well-protected, packed with care to ensure its safe arrival. It has now been three weeks and I have not observed any leaf loss. The plant is thriving in my office, making for a great addition. I would not hesitate to purchase it again and would highly recommend it to anyone searching for a beautiful bonsai.
However, it was larger than expected, measuring approximately 10 inches in height, and 13 inches including the container.

  25. Emily

I purchased this item as a Valentine’s Day gift for my husband’s home office, and he absolutely loves it. Initially, I was concerned about him not knowing how to properly care for it, but to my surprise, it requires minimal maintenance.
